SL Survived Upset  Against Netherlands, Ireland Victorious Over USA

SL survived an upset against Netherland which remained unsuccessful instead of an excellent performance. They played with much confidence after beating West Indies in the Super over. Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first in the trying circumstances. Netherland bowlers bowled really well and at one stage, Sri Lanka was struggling at 96 for 6. Dhananjaya De Silva played a vital role in this stage to make things better for Sri Lanka. His 93 in trying conditions pulled things back and Sri Lanka managed to score 213 in 48 overs. Dhanjaya’s performance beggared description and his fearless inning gave hope to win the match. Logan van Beek and Bas de Leede bowled very well and took six wickets.

The Netherlands chase proved to be a nightmare as both the openers lost their wickets for ducks. But after that, Wesley Barresi and Bas de Leede built a partnership of 77 runs for the third wicket and tried to become a danger for Sri Lanka. But here the turning point of the match happened. Barresi got run out and Sri Lanka took full advantage of that casualty. Mahesh Theekshana picked up three wickets in the next two overs and Netherland’s hopes were dashed to the ground. He was well supported by Wanindu Haaranga who sent two batsmen to the pavilion and Netherland’s inning was curtailed to 192. Scott Edwards managed to score 67 not out. SL survived an upset by 21 runs. 

On the other hand, Ireland secured a walk-over against the USA which is still looking for a win in the tournament. Ireland won the toss and asked the USA to bat first. USA were deprived of two wickets in the initial overs but they recovered well with 88 runs partnership between Saiteja Mukkamalla and Sushant Modani. But Ireland pulled the reigns with some quick wickets and curtailed the USA to 196 All Out. Craig Young picked up three wickets.

In chasing a low total, Ireland took a Blistering start. Paul Stirling’s fifty along with Andy Balbirnie’s 45 helped Ireland to grab an easy victory with 15.4 overs to spare.
