England women won against Denmark with the help of a brilliant strike by Lauren James and they are close to the last 16 but carried the day at the cost of Keira Walsh as the midfielder suffered a knee injury. England will play the final match against China next Tuesday.

England registered their second victory in the tournament beating Denmark with a margin of 1-0 in Group D. Thanks to the brilliant performance of Lauren James who scored the only goal to continue the winning momentum.

England is leading the group with six points and seems to secure the position in the last 16. They have to play the final match against China and they have to avoid defeat to go forward.

Denmark got a chance to score the equaliser in the 87th minute but they could not take advantage of that opportunity.

Remember that 21 years old Lauren James is the younger sister of Reece, the Chelsea Star. She performed magnificently on her debut.

James dodged Josefine Hasbo after picking the ball from Daly and curled a powerful shot to score the only goal of the game.

But midfielder Walsh’s knee injury after the half-hour proved to be a bolt from the blue for England. She was taken off a few minutes later.  There is serious doubt about her return to the playground in the tournament and it is considered to be a huge blow for England’s hopes.

The midfielder has been an integral part of the England team who won the Euros last year, Liga F, and Champions League double.

Her injury proved to be a dark cloud for her team that has lost the caption Leah Williamson and Beth Mead before the tournament.

Denmark Coach Lars Sondergaard felt sorry for England on losing Walsh and said that in the absence of Walsh, they played better in the second half.

The manager of the team Sarina Wiegman looked anxious about the injury of the main player and said that she is concerned because Walsh did not walk off the pitch. However, she will avoid making assumptions until the right reports.

She said that they had to fight hard in the second half due to the absence of Walsh but she is feeling proud of her team for the fighting spirit.

She said that it does not look nice when your main player goes off the pitch in this fashion but it happens in the game and they have to move on.

She appreciated the performance of Lauren James and said that she is a superb talent and everybody knows her talents. She is a brilliant player and they need some more talented players like her.

Meanwhile, Walsh teammate Rachel Daly expressed hope about her recovery by saying that she is hopeful that the injury will not be as bad as it was looking and England team will not suffer due to her absence.
